Are you aware that mosquitoes can transmit a potentially deadly disease to your dog?  As many as 30 species of mosquitoes can transmit heartworm.  Heartworms cause disease by infiltrating a dog’s heart and major blood vessels.  Not only will this cause heart and lung disease but impairs blood flow to the dog’s vital organs.

Heartworm disease is preventable!  A simple blood test can be run at Burch Creek Animal Hospital to screen your dog for heartworm disease.  Once we’ve ensured your dog is heartworm negative, we can start a heartworm prevention program.  A once a month chewable treat is all that is needed to prevent the deadly disease.  (Many Heartworm prevention products are available including Heartgard, Iverhart, Sentinel, Revolution, and Interceptor.)
